Student-Athlete Advisory Committee
A Letter from the SAAC President
Dear Fellow Student-Athletes,
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to the growing voice of student-athletes on our campus, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). This committee gives student-athletes the opportunity to really make a difference both on and off campus by participating in different community service and engagement activities.
SAAC is comprised of two members from each of our 8 varsity sports, including 4 at-large representatives, as well as our SAAC Advisor.
The main goals that SAAC hopes to achieve are providing input on the rules, regulations, and policies that affect the lives of student-athletes on NCAA member institution campuses. This is achieved by monthly meetings which are held on campus throughout the school year. In addition, two representatives from GCU are chosen to attend the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) SAAC meetings which are held twice a year.
SAAC's main focus is to help make a difference in our local community. We are devoted to working both on and off campus to assist fellow students, student-athletes, up and coming Lions stars, and other members in the community. Certain initiatives led by SAAC include: Make-A-Wish fundraising, working with Big Brother’s/Big Sister’s, reading to local Lakewood elementary schools and participating in different community service projects throughout the year.
As we enter the 2008-2009 school year, we are looking to enhance the student-athlete experience through different activities to develop inter-team bonding, increasing participation and excitement about our athletic events, as well as performing various community service and engagement activities. Also, check out the SAAC website, it is a great tool to help you keep up to date on different SAAC events that are taking place on campus. I look forward to seeing you on campus throughout the year, while also working with you to help make SAAC a more valuable part of your college experience. Please feel free to contact me or either of your team representatives with any thoughts or ideas that you may have regarding certain issues or activities on campus. Good luck this year in your respective seasons!
Thank you,
Chelsea Long
