Graduates do not need a ticket for themselves.
GRADUATES, GIVE YOUR GUESTS THEIR TICKETS AS THEY MAY NOT BE ABLE TO FIND YOU BEFORE THE CEREMONY.
A commencement ceremony is a celebratory, yet solemn occasion and we ask graduates to respect this process. Academic Attire for graduates consists of a black gown, a colored hood, and a cap with a tassel. The tassel should be worn to the right for bachelor's candidates, and to the left for masters' candidates.
Undergrads, if you are eligible to wear an academic cord, it will be given to you by the appropriate department or honor society.
Apparel worn under the academic gown should be of dark colors that harmonize with the academic attire and respect the solemnity of the ceremony. Shoes must be black. Graduates should keep in mind that the procession will pass over uneven gravel paths, grassy areas, and up and down stairs, so moderation is suggested when choosing heels.
Nothing should be worn on your academic attire or affixed to it, such as corsages, pins, or taped messages. You will be asked to remove such items during line-up. Purses, cameras, etc. should be left with your guests.
*Try on and press academic attire before commencement - gowns will be wrinkled!*
If you qualify as a Dean's Scholar, your certificate will be included with your diploma, both of which may be picked up after the ceremony in the Casino Ballroom. If you are a member of an honor society, you may receive cords from that department to wear at commencement.
If you qualify for honors cum laude (3.6,) magna cum laude (3.75,) or summa cum laude (3.9,) based upon your cumulative GPA, this designation will be on the card you hand to the reader on the stage. After your final grades are posted in self-service, you can view your final GPA to see if you qualify.
Honors are not bestowed upon post-baccalaureate degree candidates as it is expected that all graduate students will excel in their chosen field of study.
