Integrated into the university’s liberal arts curriculum, the GCU Dance program focuses on training the dancer technically, while also helping each student cultivate creativity and a unique artistic vision. We strive to teach the art of dance in a way that is motivating, genuine, and unadorned. Dance students are encouraged to bring their own choreographic works and artistic pieces to the stage throughout the program.
Georgian Court University offers two avenues to pursue in Dance. Students can choose a major in dance and receive a B.A. GCU also offers a minor in the program.
Dance majors study ballet, modern, and jazz dance forms, as well as improvisation and choreography. Course work includes dance history, kinesiology and anatomy, Laban movement analysis, and dance production, music, and lighting. Program graduates will be prepared to perform with dance companies or theater groups, teach dance, or to pursue graduate study. Students pursuing non-performance career paths in areas such as dance criticism, arts administration, dance therapy, or entrepreneurship, combine the dance major with a second major or a minor in Art, Music, Exercise Science, Communications, Psychology, or Business.
