Department of Exercise Science, Wellness, and Sports  
Gainful Employment Disclosure

The major in Exercise Science, Wellness and Sports prepares students to work in the health and fitness industry, evaluating health behaviors and risk factors, motivating others to develop healthy lifestyles, assessing fitness, and developing fitness and exercise programs. Graduates of the program will be employed in universities, corporate settings, and commercial and community settings. Students may choose tracks in Pre-Physical Therapy or Coaching. The program will also prepare students for graduate programs in the fields of exercise science, physician’s assistant, physical therapy or athletic training. Students may wish to minor in Sports Management, Holistic Health, Business, Psychology or one of the natural sciences to achieve their career goals.

Program Objectives and Principles:

Provide students with a scientific foundation for helping others set and achieve exercise, health and fitness goals;
  • Prepare students for employment in health promotion and wellness settings;
  • Prepare students for further study in graduate programs; and
  • Build skills in speaking, writing, critical thinking and evaluation to succeed in the field.

Getting into Graduate School

Below are the courses necessary for undergraduate students to take in order to attend graduate school in athletic training, nutrition, physician assistant, and physical therapy. As documented on these charts, the specific course requirements vary from school to school. In addition, the entrance requirements for each school are subject to change, so it is important to contact the school you are interested in to confirm them.
