Many thanks to those who joined us for the 12th Annual Georgian Court University Scholarship Gala. The university hosted this black tie event in the historic Casino on the campus. Cocktails began at 6:30 pm. Guests enjoyed delicious hors d’oeuvres and great company as they gathered with friends. During the cocktail hour, in addition to perusing the silent auction offerings, guests enjoyed Boardwalk-themed arcade games such as remote-controlled boat racing in the pool, bowling in the newly-restored Casino bowling alley, miniature golf, and the high striker. Reminiscent of the Jersey Shore boardwalks, the granddaughter of Asbury Park’s Madame Marie, Sabrina, offered psychic readings to guests. The party moved into the rest of the Casino for dinner and dancing at 8:00 pm. This year’s entertainment was provided by Tim McLoone and the Shirleys.
Each year, alumni, friends, and business and community leaders come together to help Georgian Court achieve its mission of providing a comprehensive liberal arts education rooted in the Mercy core values of justice, respect, integrity, compassion, and service. Special thanks to all those that attended the event, contributed as underwriters or ad journal patrons. Over 300 people participated in this year’s 50/50 raffle. This year’s winner one of Georgian Court’s own faculty members.
Proceeds from the Scholarship Gala are dedicated to Georgian Court’s Scholarship Fund, which helps deserving students achieve their dreams. The university provides approximately $9 million in institutional aid provided in the form of need-, merit- and talent-based scholarships, tuition discounts and work-study opportunities provided to students each year. During the 2008–2009 academic year, the university increased this institutional aid by more than 16% to meet students’ increased need during these difficult financial times, a feat made possible only through the generous support of organizations and individuals who support the university with their generous gifts.
