Georgian Court to Sponsor Safety Seminar for Women
Lakewood, N.J., Feb. 13, 2008—Georgian Court University will host a seminar entitled “Crime Prevention: Safety Measures for Women” on Wednesday, March 5, at 6:30 p.m. The seminar will be facilitated by Georgian Court University Chief of Security and retired police chief Thomas Zambrano.
“Georgian Court community members, as well as the general public, need to plan to protect themselves in the world we live in,” says Chief Zambrano, a former police officer with more than 28 years in law enforcement. “Information received at crime prevention programs encourages and empowers people.”
Chief Zambrano says that by learning basic principles, women can take control of their lives and their safety whether at home, in a mall parking lot, or in the clutches of an attacker. He will demonstrate tactics, role-play scenarios, and offer a common sense approach to becoming more aware of your surroundings.
At the seminar, women will learn how to walk confidently when alone, receive tips for staying safe, learn what they need to know when shopping at the mall or a supermarket, and more. The program is theory-based, however there will be a martial arts expert present to demonstrate specific hands-on techniques.
The event will be held in the Little Theatre on GCU’s Lakewood campus. Open to the public, the cost is $5 per person and is free to the GCU community with ID. Reservations are required and may be made by contacting the Office of Conferences and Special Events at732.987.2263 or email@example.com.
