Georgian Court Invites You to Experience the Gilded Age of Newport
Rhode Island Weekend Getaway Includes Mansion Tours and Newport Flower Show Visit
Lakewood, N.J., March 4, 2008—Georgian Court University invites you to join them on a weekend getaway to Newport, Rhode Island, famous for its natural seaside beauty and for the magnificent mansions and gardens built there as summer cottages by the industrial barons of the Gilded Age. On this three-day, two-night trip from Friday, June 27, to Sunday, June 29, you will visit the elaborate mansions along Bellevue Avenue—the Breakers, the Elms, Rosecliff, and more.
You will experience the 2008 Newport Flower Show, New England's premier outdoor flower show, held in the elegant reception rooms and on the oceanfront lawn of Rosecliff, a Gilded-Age mansion modeled after the Grand Trianon, the garden retreat of French kings at Versailles. You will also tour Fort Adams, the largest coastal fortification in the United States, and spend some time at Bannister’s Wharf for shopping and dining. To cap off your visit, enjoy the natural beauty of the Newport shoreline with a stroll along the Cliff Walk, the first National Recreation Trail in New England.
Your trip includes round-trip motorcoach transportation from Georgian Court, which will leave from the Seventh Street Gate at 7:30 a.m. on Friday. You’ll be escorted by a GCU tour guide and enjoy two nights accommodation in Newport, three breakfasts, three lunches, and two dinners. The trip is $600 per person, based on double occupancy, or $1,000 per person for single occupancy. Reservations and a 50 percent deposit are due by April 15; deposits are nonrefundable after May 15.
