Frida Kahlo’s Work to Be Explored at Georgian Court

Lakewood, N.J., Feb. 27, 2009—Georgian Court University offers a glimpse into the passionate life and work of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo with “Frida Kahlo: Vibrant Paintings, Vibrant Life,” a multimedia presentation, on Friday, March 20, at 6:30 p.m. Part of Georgian Court’s popular Adventures for the Mind and Palate series, a complete Mexican dinner will be served. Enjoy dessert and coffee during the presentation.

GCU Invites High School Seniors to Freshman Instant Decision Day

Lakewood, N.J., Feb. 26, 2009—On Friday, March 13, at 10:00 a.m., high school seniors are invited to the Lake House on Georgian Court University’s Lakewood campus to have their applications reviewed, tour the campus, enjoy lunch, and meet with an admissions counselor to learn of the admissions decision—all in the same day.

GCU Holds Information Session for 9- and 18-Month Teacher Certification Program

Lakewood, N.J., Feb. 20, 2009—Georgian Court University will hold an information session for the 9-month full-time or 18-month part-time Postbaccalaureate Teacher Certification program on Saturday, February 28, at 10:00 a.m. in the Lake House on the historic Lakewood campus.

GCU Offers Information Sessions for Incoming Transfer Students

Lakewood, N.J., Feb. 19, 2009—On Wednesday, March 4, Georgian Court University invites transfer students to attend an Undergraduate Transfer Information Session to learn about the transfer admissions process. This session will include information regarding scholarships, financial aid, and the transcript evaluation process. Reservations are required and will be confirmed. The session will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Lake House on the Lakewood campus.

Human Rights Activist to Speak at GCU for Women’s History Month

Lakewood, N.J., Feb. 17, 2009—Join Georgian Court in a celebration of Women’s History Month on Tuesday, March 10, with headline speaker Naomi Tutu, human rights activist. The lecture will take place at 6:30 p.m. in the Casino on the Lakewood campus. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door, and free to members of the GCU community with ID. Georgian Court University Named to Presidential Honor Roll for Community Service

Lakewood, N.J., Feb. 16, 2009—The Corporation for National and Community Service honored Georgian Court University today with a place on the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for exemplary service efforts and service to America’s communities.

GCU Offers Sixth Installment in Centennial Film Classics Series

Lakewood, N.J., Feb. 16, 2009—Georgian Court celebrates its Centennial year with Centennial Film Classics, a Monday night film series featuring movies from each of the eight decades that the university has resided in Lakewood. The latest installment for the 1970s decade, The Sting (1973), will be shown on Monday, March 9, at 6:30 p.m. in the Little Theatre on GCU’s Lakewood campus. This film was the second award-winning pairing of Robert Redford and Paul Newman.

One-Woman Show at GCU Brings Female Role Models to Life

Lakewood, N.J., Feb. 16, 2009—Experience the dreams, frustrations, struggles, and victories of Rachel Carson, the mother of the environmental movement; Louise Arner Boyd, polar explorer; Sacajawea, Native American guide for the Lewis and Clark expedition; and Bessie Coleman, the first African-American pilot. Join Georgian Court University for the one-woman show “Women: Back to the Future” on Thursday, March 5, at 6:30 p.m. in the Little Theatre on the Lakewood campus. The show is presented as part of GCU’s Conversations across Time series, which celebrates our heritage with professional portrayals of those from the past whose impact is still felt today.

Local Artist Exhibits “Colors of Nature” at Georgian Court University Art Gallery

Lakewood, N.J., Feb. 13, 2009—See nature transformed by the talented hand of watercolor and oil artist Muriel Rogers. From a dreamy mist-covered lake to an unusually crisp snowfall, this New Jersey native juxtaposes two seemingly opposite techniques to form photographic clarity against a soft-edged background. This show of 25 watercolor and oil paintings will run from Monday, March 2, through Friday, April 3, at the M. Christina Geis Art Gallery. GCU Welcomes Bestselling The Color of Water Author James McBride to Campus in Celebration of Black History Month

February, American Heart Month, Is Celebrated with a Series of Lectures at Georgian Court University

Lakewood, N.J., Feb. 2, 2009—Heart disease remains the number one killer of Americans. In February, the Exercise Science Club of Georgian Court University will sponsor a series of lectures about heart disease for American Heart Month on the Lakewood campus at 900 Lakewood Avenue. All lectures are free and open to the public.

Georgian Court University and Ocean County College Enter into Dual Degree Transfer Agreement

Lakewood, N.J., Feb. 2, 2009—Georgian Court University and Ocean County College have recently entered into a dual degree transfer agreement for Georgian Court’s B.S. in Exercise Science, Wellness, and Sports degree program. This agreement will assist students who wish to transfer to GCU’s program after having successfully completed one of OCC’s associate degree programs: an A.S. in General Studies, option in Health & Physical Education, or an A.A. in Liberal Arts.
