GCU E-mail System
Georgian Court University uses Microsoft Exchange/Outlook 2003 as its email system. There are 2 versions that can be used. Microsoft Outlook desktop version is currently used by all Faculty and Staff. The software can be accessed by clicking on the Email - Microsoft Office Outlook located on the Start Menu when using Windows XP, and the Programs Menu in Windows 2000.
Outlook Web Access (OWA) is the Internet version of Microsoft Exchange/Outlook 2003. It has the same look and feel as the full version of Microsoft Outlook 2003, only with limited features. OWA is available 24/7 for all GCU users. Instructions for both are listed below.
Email access is available through the GCU portal located on the homepage of the GCU website. This allows single sign-on access to email, student information and lists university announcements. The GCU email account given to each student shall be the official account for all email communications with students relating to official University business. Each student is responsible for checking his/her GCU email account frequently, recognizing that certain communications may be time-critical. Therefore, GCU has the right to send official communications to students via email expecting that those communications will be read on a regular basis.
All students are issued a University network ID and a “georgian.edu” email address upon their entrance into the University. This email address will be listed as the official email address for each student in the student’s records. Faculty, staff and administration WILL NOT accept requests to list an alternate email address as the official email address for any student at any time.
As stated, students are expected to check their GCU email accounts frequently for important University communications. A student who chooses to have their email electronically redirected from the GCU email account to an alternate email account does so at his/her own risk. GCU will not be responsible for the redirecting of email to an external Internet Service Provider. Having email redirected does not absolve the student from the responsibility associated with this policy and the use of the GCU email address as the official email address for University communications.
