Hispanic Heritage Celebration Comes to Georgian Court
Lakewood, N.J., Sept. 12, 2007—Georgian Court University will honor the rich contributions of the Hispanic community to the university’s academics, culture, and student life. The Hispanic Heritage Celebration, hosted by the Latin American Student Organization (LASO), will take place on Tuesday, October 2, at 8:00 p.m. at the university’s Casino building on the Lakewood campus. The event is being held as part of the university’s celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from September 15 through October 15.
The featured speaker will be Rodrigo Colon ’95, who is a member of the Georgian Court Alumni Council’s Board of Directors and an adjunct faculty member of the School of Business. He will speak about Hispanic family tradition. The event will also feature music and dancing.
Also among the event’s highlights will be the introduction of Conexion, a brochure written and produced by LASO co-president Adriana Correa, a senior graphic design and illustration major. Conexion is a Spanish-language brochure that is designed to help Spanish-speaking residents find solutions for their needs, such as transportation, library services, and agencies with services for immigrants. Ms. Correa noticed the need for such a guide after immigrating with her family to the United States from Colombia when she was 12.
The event is open to the public, but reservations are recommended. Admission is $5.00, but free for members of the Georgian Court community with identification. For more information and reservations, please contact the Office of Conferences and Special Events at 732.987.2263 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
