Public Forum on Darfur to Be Held at Georgian Court University
Lakewood, N.J., Mar. 9, 2007—The genocide in Sudan’s western region of Darfur presents the starkest challenge to the world since the Rwandan genocide. Join Georgian Court University’s Department of History and Geography and the Center for World War II Studies and Conflict Resolution at Brookdale Community College for the public forum “Global Conflicts and Prospects for Peace: The Case of Darfur,” on Thursday, March 29, from 9:30 am to 1:00 p.m. in the Little Theatre on Georgian Court’s Lakewood campus.
The keynote speaker will be distinguished scholar Joyce Apsel, Ph.D., a professor of humanities at New York University and the director of Rights Work International, an international education project on genocide and human rights. A historian and attorney, Dr. Apsel conducts workshops for student, teacher, and community groups on issues of discrimination, genocide, human rights, and creating community. She is the editor of Darfur: Genocide Before Our Eyes (2005) and Teaching about Human Rights (2005), and the coeditor of Teaching about Genocide: A Guidebook for College and University Teachers (2002).
After the conclusion of Dr. Apsel’s remarks, a distinguished panel will entertain questions and promote further discussion.
