Georgian Court University to Break Ground on New Wellness Center
Lakewood, N.J., Apr. 12, 2007—On Friday, April 27, at 1:30 p.m., Georgian Court University will break ground on its new Wellness Center and Complex. This state-of-the-art facility, which will be completed in 2008, is designed as a silver-rated Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) structure, incorporating water, material, and energy efficiency. The groundbreaking will take place on the northeast corner of the Arts and Science Center parking lot on the Lakewood campus.
Speakers at the event will include Rosemary Jeffries, RSM, Ph.D., president of Georgian Court University; Patricia Koch, chair of the Georgian Court Board of Trustees; and student representatives, who will discuss how the new center will improve opportunities and wellness on the campus. In addition to planned new academic programs in areas such as dance and exercise science, the Wellness Center will integrate the concept of “wellness” into the existing educational infrastructure. Adjacent fields will enable Georgian Court to expand NCAA Division II sports and teams from its current 7 to 10, adding track and field, field hockey, and golf by 2010. Individual exercise and fitness areas will also be available to the Georgian Court community.
In addition to increased athletic programs, the facility will also include external elements, such as gardens, gathering places, fountains, and sitting areas to both beautify the campus and serve to address the spiritual needs of individuals.
The groundbreaking event is open to the public, but registration is required. For more information and to register, call Beth Schriefer at 732.987.2267 by April 16.
