Georgian Court University to Host “Centennial Ball”

Annual Scholarship Gala to Include Fireworks Display in Honor of University's Centennial

Lakewood, N.J., Sept. 26, 2008—On Saturday evening, October 18, 2008, Georgian Court University will celebrate its 100th birthday in lavish style with the formal and elegant “Centennial Ball.” The black-tie event will take place in and around the historic and magnificent Gould Mansion on the Lakewood campus, with proceeds from the evening’s events dedicated to Georgian Court’s Scholarship Fund.

“The Centennial is a once-in-a-lifetime achievement, so we have planned the celebration of a lifetime!” says Margaret A. Huber, vice president for advancement.

The grand event begins at 5:00 p.m. with cocktails, delicious hors d’oeuvres, and strolling musicians in the beautiful Sunken Garden. At dark, the cocktail hour will conclude with a special fireworks display. Then the event moves to the Mansion for the start of dinner and dancing with entertainment provided by Tim McLoone and the Shirleys.

“Each year, alumni, friends, and business and community leaders come together to help Georgian Court achieve its mission of providing a comprehensive liberal arts education rooted in the Mercy core values of justice, respect, integrity, compassion, and service,” says Rosemary E. Jeffries, RSM, Ph.D., university president. “One hundred years is a significant milestone to celebrate,” she continues, “And we intend to do it in style.”

Also scheduled is a silent auction to include artwork, jewelry, and sports and vacation packages. Bidding for the auction will open at 7:15 p.m.

Proceeds from the event are dedicated to the Georgian Court Scholarship Fund, which helps deserving students fulfill their dreams. Each year, the university provides over $7 million in scholarships, loans, and work-study programs, a feat made possible only through the generous support of the university community, friends, and supporters.

Tickets to the Centennial Ball are $250 each, with numerous sponsorship opportunities ranging from $250 to $25,000. In addition, Georgian Court is sponsoring a Centennial Ball 50/50 cash raffle, with 300 tickets being sold at a donation of $100 each. The winning ticket holder will receive a prize up to $15,000.
