Georgian Court University Marks Record Enrollment
2008’s Enrollment Highest in University’s History
Lakewood, N.J., Oct. 10, 2008—This September, Georgian Court University marked a record-breaking year for enrollment on several fronts. The incoming freshman class totaled 255, which is the largest incoming class of full-time freshmen. That, combined with the incoming full-time transfer students represents a 24 percent increase over last year, which was also a record-breaking year. In addition, the school welcomed more incoming pre-collegiate students and incoming residential students than ever before. The totals broke down as follows:
Fall 2008 Fall 2007
Full-time freshmen 255 226
Full-time transfers 246 184
Other full-time 26 15
TOTAL 527 425
Graduate credits 4,207 3,655
Pre-collegiate students 251 173
Incoming residents 190 176
Dennis Kelly, Georgian Court University’s vice president of enrollment, credits the university’s new master enrollment plan. The plan integrates both internal and external recruitment efforts to ensure that the university is maximizing its effectiveness in attracting and retaining students. The plan, which Mr. Kelly spearheaded, kicked off prior to this fall’s enrollment season and includes 10 new recommendations that will be carried out through 2012.
“The enrollment plan includes enhanced financial aid access, collaborations with area community colleges, new areas of study and athletic programs, and other recruitment and retention-based initiatives,” says Mr. Kelly. “Another important fact besides the enrollment numbers going up,” he says, “is that the grade point average of the incoming students has also increased.” The incoming freshman class maintains a grade point average of more than 3.0.
“The key is that people within the university are working collaboratively. The plan really guides faculty, staff, and students through all of the activities we need for strong enrollment in a strategic manner,” says Mr. Kelly.
