About Citizen Kane
Orson Welles, who directed, produced, wrote, and starred in the film at the age of 25, plays newspaper magnate Charles Foster Kane. The film, which begins with Kane’s lonely death, tells the story of his life in a series of flashbacks as reporters try to decipher the last word he spoke: “Rosebud.” As the reporters investigate, the viewers see a display of a fascinating man’s rise to fame, and how he eventually fell off the “top of the world.” Welles and his cowriter received the Academy Award for Best Writing of an Original Screenplay, and the film was nominated in eight other categories.
