Lakewood, N.J., Nov. 17, 2008—There is no better place to celebrate the holidays than the beautiful and historic Georgian Court University campus. To celebrate its Centennial year, the university is inaugurating its First Annual Victorian Christmas, which will take place on Saturday, December 6, and Sunday, December 7. Students, staff, faculty, and their family members, along with members of Georgian Court’s more than 40 clubs, such as the Clionaes History Club and the Italian Club, have volunteered their time to work with a professional production company to treat visitors to life in the time and through the words of Charles Dickens.
Lakewood, N.J., Nov. 17, 2008—Twenty-five pieces from renowned artist Lea Colie Wight of Manasquan will grace the walls of Georgian Court University’s M. Christina Geis Art Gallery in December. Entitled “Beyond Classical Realism: Paintings of Light and Color,” it will include works in oil on linen, as well as pencil and charcoal. The exhibit, which marks a homecoming of sorts for Ms. Wight, who studied printmaking at the university, opens on Tuesday, December 2, with a reception in the gallery from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The exhibit will run through December 19.
Lakewood, N.J., Nov. 12, 2008—The work of accomplished photographer and graphic designer Jennifer Sweeney will be on display at Georgian Court University now through November 26, 2008. The exhibit, entitled “Solace: Images of the Contemporary Landscape,” will feature Ms. Sweeney’s pigment prints of nature’s beauty. The exhibit is currently housed in the M. Christina Geis Art Gallery at Georgian Court University.
Lakewood, N.J., Nov. 12, 2008—Georgian Court celebrates its Centennial year with Centennial Film Classics, a Monday night film series featuring movies from each of the eight decades that the university has resided in Lakewood. The latest installment for the 1950s decade, An American in Paris (1951), will be shown on Monday, December 1, at 6:30 p.m. in the Little Theatre on GCU’s Lakewood campus. The Gershwin-inspired musical ranks as number 9 on the American Film Institute’s list of the 25 greatest movie musicals of all time.
