Meet the Author: GCU Professor Introduces New Book on Gospel of John
Lakewood, N.J., Apr. 6, 2009—On Monday, April 20, at 6:30 p.m., Georgian Court University professor Judith Schubert, RSM, Ph.D., will discuss her recently published book from Paulist Press, The Gospel of John: Question by Question. Part of GCU’s continuing Women of Witness series, the event features a presentation by Dr. Schubert, professor of theology and religious studies and biblical scholar. After her presentation, Dr. Schubert will be available to sign copies of her book. The program will be held in the Little Theatre on the Lakewood campus and is open to the public. Admission is free, but reservations are required. Light refreshments will be served.
Each chapter in The Gospel of John: Question by Question begins with a short introduction of the corresponding chapter in the Bible and is followed by a series of questions. Readers are encouraged to find the answers in the biblical text, with answers also listed in the second half of the book. Each chapter’s question-and-answer portion is followed by a conclusion, which is a commentary on the contextual material of that chapter. This unique format engages the reader in thoughtful interaction with the actual biblical text, allowing the reader to become more involved in the powerful messages within the gospel. The Gospel of John: Question by Question is a study guide that is intended for both college and parish adult Bible study groups, and provides an interactive, dynamic, and engaging way to approach the Gospel of John. Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the event.
Dr. Schubert teaches courses in both the Hebrew Bible and New Testament, as well as women in the Bible. She received her Ph.D. in Theology (New Testament) from Fordham University. She has also published chapters and articles in biblical and liturgical journals as well as lectured throughout the East Coast and Israel. She is a member of the Catholic Biblical Association of America and a member of the Society of Biblical Literature.
