GCU Chorale to Sing Praise and Sondheim at Annual Spring Concert
Lakewood, N.J., Apr. 15, 2009—On Saturday, May 2, the talented Georgian Court University Chorale will present their annual spring concert at 7:30 p.m. in the Casino on the Lakewood campus. Get in the mood for spring as you listen to a variety of classical, folk, and Broadway songs from this diverse group of singers.
The GCU Chorale features singers aged from 15 to 78 years, and is composed of members of the Georgian Court community and neighboring townships. The planned selections for the evening include Handel’s “Oh, Sing to God Your Joyful Praise”; Haydn’s “Achieved is the Glorious Work”; “Shenandoah,” an American folk song arranged by John Purifoy; and “Nothin’ Gonna Stumble My Feet,” an a cappella spiritual with music by Greg Gilpin and words by John Parker; as well as many others.
“I am excited about the variety and depth of the music we will be performing,” says Karen Mulhall, director of the Chorale.” I am especially pleased to present the medley from Sweeney Todd, written by Stephen Sondheim. The music has enjoyed a renewal in the recent film version that stars Johnny Depp.”
Tickets are $10 for general admission, $5 for seniors and non-GCU students, and free for members of the GCU community with I.D. Reservations are not required. For further information and tickets, please contact the Department of Music at 732.987.2624.
