Georgian Court Offers Yoga Classes for Wellness, Strength
Lakewood, N.J., Aug. 27, 2009—Yoga enthusiasts and newcomers to the ancient practice can explore the power of posture through Vinyasa yoga, an evolving form of traditional Hatha yoga, during a five-week session at Georgian Court University.
Vinyasa Yoga for Wellness is slated for 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursdays, beginning Sept. 3, in Dance Studio II of GCU’s state-of-the-art Wellness Center. Participants will learn more about the yoga form that links postures with breath in a “dynamic dance,” according to Sachiko Komagata, P.T., Ph.D., program director and assistant professor of holistic health studies at the university.
In Vinyasa yoga, poses are organized to create a flow that balances a person’s strength and flexibility, and lunar and solar energies. Leading the five-week course is certified yoga instructor Nicole Netelkos Goetchius, who owns the Om Baby Yoga and World Arts Studio in Point Pleasant Beach, NJ. Ms. Goetchius, who is also a certified elementary school educator, is working toward a master’s degree in holistic health at GCU. The Vinyasa yoga expert also teaches prenatal yoga, family yoga, Mom and Me ballet classes, and art and movement at her studio.
The Vinyasa yoga course is part of “A Healthier You on the Horizon,” a new series of informative and interactive programs hosted by the McAuley Community Center at GCU. Registration for the yoga course is $100 per person, with discounts available to members of the McAuley Institute for Lifelong Learning. The yoga classes meet Sept. 3, 10, 17, 24, and Oct. 1, and preregistration is required..
To register, contact GCU’s Office of Conferences and Special Events at 732.987.2263 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
