Georgian Court Names New Public Information Director

Former Journalist, Educator to Lead University Communications

Lakewood, N.J., Aug. 31, 2009—Georgian Court University has named Gail H. Towns as director of public information and university communications.

The Atlanta native brings more than 15 years of experience in higher education and journalism to the post where she is responsible for media relations, print publications, and enhancing university communications. Previously she worked as an education writer and graphics reporter for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, as a freelancer and columnist for the Cincinnati Enquirer, and as a contributor to PowerGirls, a national magazine aimed at teen girls and young women.

Outside of daily journalism, Ms. Towns has worked in public affairs at Atlanta Technical College and in university relations at Western Michigan University, where she also taught journalism. Most recently she worked as an adjunct professor at the University of Cincinnati.

“I am delighted to welcome Gail Towns to GCU’s Marketing and External Affairs Division because she has the right blend of media and higher education experience,” says Ruth Ann Burns, vice president for marketing and external affairs. “She will bring added visibility to Georgian Court programs, faculty, and students and make a difference in our Office of Public Information and University Communications.”
