Georgian Court University to Host Two Powerful Dance Performances
GCU Department of Dance Presents “Tide” and “Vertex”
Lakewood, N.J., Mar. 9, 2010—The Georgian Court University Department of Dance invites you to explore the diverse and vibrant world of dance with two special performances on Friday, March 12, at 7:00 p.m. in the Wellness Center North Gardens and Studio 2 on the Lakewood campus.
Dance-company-in-residence Scrap Performance Group will present “Tide,” a dance piece that explores concepts of eco-psychosis: the deterioration of the soul caused by humans’ detachment from the Earth. “Tide” premiered at the 2009 Philadelphia Live Arts Festival and features family scrapbooks, ancestral songs, and contact improvisation that contribute to original movement vocabulary to re-sensitize viewers to their own inquiries.
Cardell Dance Theater, directed by Silvana Cardell, director of Georgian Court’s dance program, will present “Vertex,” a performance centered on dance, storytelling, visual image, and music that explores the union of a moment of peak experience. ”Vertex” premiered at the Annenberg Center’s 2009, Buy Local Series and illustrates the defining moments about the real people behind the phrase “collateral damage.”
Admission is $10 for the general public, $5 for students and senior citizens, and free to members of the GCU community with ID. For more information, please call 732.987.2170.
