GCU Presents Second Lecture in Healthy Heart Series for American Heart Month
Lecture Addresses Connection between Diabetes and Heart Disease
Lakewood, N.J., Jan. 21, 2011—Heart disease and stroke are the No. 1 causes of death and disability among people with type 2 diabetes. So how can one prevent or manage a diabetes diagnosis to avoid these outcomes? On Friday, February 11, Georgian Court University answers these questions and more during “Diabetes and Heart Disease,” the second lecture in the four-part Healthy Heart Series sponsored by the Meridian CardioVascular Network.
Join Loretta Ninivaggi, nurse practitioner at Jersey Shore Medical Center, to learn what diabetes is, understand the connection to heart disease, find strategies to reduce your risk, or learn how to live with the disease if you’ve been diagnosed. Discussions will include diabetes; pre-diabetes; metabolic syndrome and its connection to heart disease; the correlations between diabetes, heart disease, and stroke; heart and blood vessel diseases; risk factors; treatment; and diet, nutrition, exercise, and behavior changes.
The two-hour event begins at 10:00 a.m. and will take place in the Mansion on GCU’s historic Lakewood campus. Reservations are required for this lecture and upcoming topics in the four-part series; please contact GCU’s Office of Conferences and Special Events at 732.987.2263 or email@example.com. The lectures are $5 per person for the general public, and free to GCU students and McAuley Institute for Lifelong Learning members with ID.
