Georgian Court Presents Healthy Heart Series for American Heart Month
“Stress Management for Women” Wraps up Four-Session Series
Lakewood, N.J., Feb. 25, 2011—In a recent study, women with high job strain faced a 40 percent increase in cardiovascular disease overall, and an 88 percent increase in risk for heart attacks alone. So says the researchers behind the Women’s Health Study, sponsored by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, who released their findings in November 2010 at a meeting of the American Heart Association. On Tuesday, March 1, Georgian Court University addresses the impact of stress on women’s heart health during “Stress Management for Women,” the last lecture in the four-part Healthy Heart Series sponsored by the Meridian CardioVascular Network.
Dr. Lisa Sussman, a psychologist with Meridian Behavioral Health Service, will examine the influence of positive and negative stress in our lives and the impact that stress has on our health and wellness. She’ll also introduce strategies for reversing stress and its effects. Discussions will include the definition of stress, common causes, how women react, post-traumatic stress disorder, the effects on the body and health, the connection between stress and heart disease, and tips to reduce stress.
The two-hour event begins at 10:00 a.m. and will take place in the Mansion on GCU’s historic Lakewood campus. Reservations are required; please contact GCU’s Office of Conferences and Special Events at 732.987.2263 or email@example.com. The lecture is $5 per person for the general public, and free to GCU students and McAuley Institute for Lifelong Learning members with ID.
