Georgian Court Art Gallery Presents Senior Portfolio Exhibit
Two B.F.A. in Graphic Design Students to Display Their Work
Lakewood, N.J., May 3, 2011—Seniors Samantha Phillips and Arelis Perez, are set to graduate from Georgian Court University in May’s Commencement ceremony, but not before they show off the art and designs they’ve spent years perfecting. The two Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design seniors will present a joint Senior Portfolio Exhibit from Monday, May 9, through Friday, May 13 M. Christina Geis Art Gallery on GCU’s Lakewood campus. An artists’ reception will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Tuesday, May 10.
Samantha, a resident of Toms River, has focused her graphic design interest on branding. After graduation, Samantha will be pursuing an M.B.A. to further her knowledge of marketing, which she hopes will make her an even better designer.
“I would describe my style as retro—I am very influenced by 1960s art.” says Samantha, who has completed three internships in graphic design and also worked as a freelance photographer. “But I always love to learn and try new techniques,” she adds.
Arelis, a resident of Kenilworth, says that her love of art has developed into a “deep passion” for graphic design and plans to pursue an M.F.A. in Graphic Design. Like her classmate, she also enjoys working on branding projects, creating advertisements, and designing logos, and hopes to become a design manager or creative director.
“I have seen the progress in graphic design, advertising, and multimedia, and I cannot wait to jump in with both feet,” she says, adding that her skills in using the latest software and digital photography already enhance the work she has accomplished here at Georgian Court.
“In their exhbition, Samantha and Arelis reveal their personal styles through their unique interpretations of design projects,” says Geraldine Velasquez, Ed.D., professor of art. “They have worked together beautifully to bring this exhibition to the public.”
