Orchestra of Saint Peter by the Sea Rings in the Season at GCU
Father Alphonse Stephenson Conducts 12th Annual Christmas at The Court Concert
Lakewood, N.J., Nov. 22, 2011—The delightful sounds of the Orchestra of Saint Peter by the Sea, conducted by Father Alphonse Stephenson, returns to Georgian Court University during the 12th Annual Christmas at The Court concert, Sunday, December 11, at 1:00 p.m. The concert will be performed in the Casino Auditorium on GCU’s Lakewood campus.
Father Alphonse, a favorite among concertgoers on the Jersey Shore, returns to the area this holiday season from Arlington, Va., where he is director of the Joint Chaplaincy Staff at the National Guard Bureau. The longtime military chaplain, who is as comfortable directing hundreds of musicians as they perform pieces from Bach to Broadway as he is serving others in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Guantanamo Bay, has a dedicated following of supporters who love his music and his charismatic conducting style.
Renowned for his work as conductor of Broadway’s A Chorus Line, Father Alphonse was a student of the late George Schick of the Metropolitan Opera and Dr. Robert Abramson of the Juilliard School, Father Alphonse has been a guest conductor of the Fresno Philharmonic, Delaware Valley Philharmonic, Metro Lyric Opera, the Greater Palm Beach Symphony Orchestra, and the Key West Pops Orchestra. He is the founder and conductor of New Jersey's largest outdoor music festival, which now features new artists.
