Georgian Court B.F.A. Student Presents Senior Art Show
Lakewood, N.J., Dec. 6, 2011—Check out “EMBARK,” the senior B.F.A. exhibit of Georgian Court University student Colleen Burtt, starting Wednesday, December 7, through Friday, December 30, in GCU’s M. Christina Geis Art Gallery. Ms. Burtt, a resident of Ocean, will host an opening reception on December 7 at 4:30 p.m.
Ms. Burtt, who draws her inspiration from everything around her, says her latest creations are influenced by world cultures and everyday objects and reflect her perspective on life.
“I create to leave my mark on the world. To let everyone, present and future, know that I was here, and this is how I saw things,” she says.
Some of the pieces in the exhibit include “The Alligator Bag,” a mixed media piece sculpted from plaster and wood; a sand-blown glass bowl; and “Under the Sea,” a tile mosaic in cool blues depicting sea creatures.
“I enjoy working in various media; each one has its own strengths and weaknesses,” says Ms. Burtt, who admits a preference for ceramics and sculpture.
The M. Christina Geis Art Gallery spotlights works of established and up-and-coming artists in diverse media. The gallery is located on the second floor of the Arts and Science Center on Georgian Court’s Lakewood campus. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. All exhibits are free and open to the public; no reservations are required.
