Lakewood, N.J., Apr. 29, 2011—Georgian Court University will host the Fourth Congressional District Art Competition for amateur artists from May 2 through May 5 at the M. Christina Geis Art Gallery. The winning entry will be placed on display in the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.

Lakewood, N.J., Apr. 19, 2011—On Friday, May 6, join Georgian Court University assistant professor of art history, Lisa Festa, Ph.D., as she presents a multimedia lecture about the art of Realist movement leader, Jean Désiré Gustave Courbet (1819–1877). Enjoy traditional music paired with a multicourse French dinner, followed by Dr. Festa’s lecture. This event will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the North Dining Room on the Lakewood campus.

Lakewood, N.J., Apr. 19, 2011—Learn more about local history this spring with a Tuesday morning tour of the Georgian Court University campus in Lakewood. Guided tours include the historic Mansion, Casino, and Raymond Hall Complex, as well as the unique, lush gardens on the campus grounds.

Lakewood, N.J., Apr. 18, 2011—Georgian Court University announced today that it was recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as the 2010–2011 Individual Conference Champion for using more green power than any other school in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC).

Join Fred Miller as he presents “Jerome Kern” as part of his popular Lectures-In-Song series on Friday, April 29, at 6:30 p.m. Each of Mr. Miller’s 60- to 75-minute presentations focuses on a great personality or significant aspect of American Popular Song’s Golden Age and is accompanied by a multicourse dinner.

Lakewood, N.J., Apr. 13, 2011—Join Georgian Court University for a poetry reading by critically acclaimed poet, literary critic, and biographer Paul Mariani on Thursday, April 28, at 6:00 p.m. in the Little Theatre on the Lakewood campus. The reading is being sponsored by the Department of English and the Honors Program.

Lakewood, N.J., Apr. 12, 2011—Every time watercolorist Robert Heyer paints using transparent watercolor, it’s “an adventure,” he says. The Monroe Township resident, whose exhibit “My Journey in Watercolor” is currently on display through Friday, April 29, in the M. Christina Geis Art Gallery on Georgian Court University’s Lakewood campus, calls his medium of choice “the Live Media” because of its “exciting and spontaneous” nature.

Georgian Court University is offering “Social Networking 101,” a hands-on workshop that introduces you to a variety of new and emerging technologies used in today’s online environment. The two-hour workshop will take place on Saturday, April 9, at 11:00 a.m. in the Raymond Hall Computer Lab 101 on the Lakewood campus.

Georgian Court University welcomes Karen Brueul of Littlebrook Organic Farm and Learning Center in Howell, who will lead the “Organic Gardening Demystified” workshop on Tuesday, April 5, at 6:30 p.m. in the Ruggiero Room on the Lakewood campus.
