Georgian Court Golf Classic Salutes George E. Norcross, III
Annual outing raises funds, underscores the benefits of student scholarships

Lakewood, N.J., April 26, 2012---In the face of increasing financial pressures and the growing demand for highly educated professionals in the workforce, helping students fund their college education is more important than ever, according to the organizers of Georgian Court University's 17th Annual Scholarship Classic, planned for Monday, May 21 at the Spring Lake Golf Club.

South Jersey businessman George E. Norcross, III, who will receive the Joseph E. Buckelew Civic Service Award, is the honoree for this year's golf outing. The annual event raises scholarship dollars for students attending Georgian Court University, and underscores the benefits of assisting students pursuing a college education. All proceeds from the golf classic, including an evening raffle event, go directly to student scholarships.

"Having grant money and scholarships gave me a really good opportunity that I wouldn't have normally had," says GCU alumna Iveliz Crespo, who graduated in 2011 with a degree in criminal justice. "Being able to attend Georgian Court with the assistance of those who donated money allowed me to get a degree and build my character, too."

Ms. Crespo, who is now in law school, will discuss the difference scholarships make in students' lives. The Camden native ultimately wants to work with juvenile offenders, and is a strong proponent of community empowerment.

Mr. Norcross, who also chairs the board of trustees of the Cooper University Hospital and Cooper Health System, is equally passionate about his community. The Cherry Hill resident is a longtime supporter of healthcare research and accessibility, and is deeply involved with education and children's issues.

For 17 years, the GCU Scholarship Classic has brought supporters of the university together for a day of fun and fund-raising. This year, the event begins at Spring Lake Golf Club with registration at 10 a.m., followed by a barbecue brunch at 10:30 a.m. and a shotgun start at noon. Later, participants will enjoy a 5:30 p.m. silent auction and open bar cocktail reception, followed by the awards dinner, where George E. Norcross, III will be the guest of honor.

Sponsorships and a limited number of foursomes for GCU's 2012 Scholarship Classic remain available. Information on sponsorship levels, amenities, registration, and other details are online at www.georgian.edu/golf.
