Lakewood, N.J., December 3, 2015—The Georgian Court University Community Chorale will host a Christmas Concert on Saturday, December 12, at 7:00 p.m. in the Casino Auditorium on GCU’s Lakewood campus.
Expect to be delighted by an array of selections, including some of your favorite holiday carols! Classical pieces, such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Kyrie” from the Requiem Mass in D minor and Joseph Hadyn’s “The Heavens Are Telling” from The Creation, will be presented alongside Richard Carpenter’s (of The Carpenters) “Merry Christmas, Darling.”
The GCU Chorale is comprised of singers from the university as well as singers from the local community. Karen Mulhall, director of the GCU Chorale, is excited about this year’s concert because of the variety of music and the instrumental support for the choir (piano, violin, cello, flute, and percussion).
“We are singing in several languages, including Ukrainian, Latin, Zulu, and, of course, English. One especially powerful song is ‘Hope for a Resolution (A Song for Mandela and de Klerk),’” she says. “It was written by composer Sean Ivory in 1994 to commemorate the end of apartheid and the beginning of reconciliation in South Africa and is dedicated to the memory of Nelson Mandela. It juxtaposes a European chant melody with a South African anti-apartheid liberation song sung in Zulu.”
Tickets are $15 for adults; $10 for seniors; and free for students, children, and GCU community members with ID. Reservations are not required. For more information or to purchase tickets, please contact Claire Lebret at 732.948.9464.
