SOLD OUT – Mrs. Gould’s 18th Annual Holiday Social
December 21 @ 11:30 am - 2:30 pm$47.00
Spend a glorious holiday season with Mrs. Gould and meet the woman of whom Peter Pan playwright Sir James Barrie wrote affectionately, “I would stand all day in the street just to catch a glimpse of Consuelo getting into her carriage.” Born into luxury and privilege, Consuelo Vanderbilt (1877–1964) was the only child of Alva, the outspoken and dominating matriarch of the Vanderbilt family. Shades of Downton Abbey were echoed in Consuelo’s life when she was forced into an ill-fated marriage of privilege. The nearly-broke Duke of Marlborough, Charles Spencer-Churchill, negotiated a $2.5 million dowry to enter the loveless union and save his estates. Eventually Consuelo discovered true love with another and built alife for herself as an independent woman and philanthropist.
