Lakewood, N.J., March 8, 2016—Take advantage of free health screenings, get free health information, and participate in interactive health demonstrations at “Just for the Health of It,” Georgian Court University’s free health fair, on Thursday, March 17. Held in the Casino building on GCU’s historic Lakewood campus, the fair will run from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and feature nearly 50 presenters from a variety of local organizations, including Meridian Health, Barnabas Health, CentraState Healthcare System, the Foodbank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, and the New Jersey Family Resource Network.
At 1:30 p.m., GCU dance students will offer a Dance Improvisation Workshop. At 2:00 p.m., join Anthony Dissen, RDN, GCU lecturer in holistic health, for a participative demonstration of Qigong, an ancient form of energy healing that has roots in classical Chinese, Japanese, and Korean medical traditions.
Attendees can also receive free health screenings for height, weight, blood pressure, blood sugar (finger stick), and fat analysis, and get health information on everything from the Zika virus, breast health, and spinal health to financial health. In addition, attendees can view research presentations from 19 students from the Georgian Court-Meridian Health School of Nursing, which is co-sponsoring the event with the GCU Office of Health Services.
“Everybody has certain risk factors,” says Cynthia Mattia, RN, GCU director of health services. “The more information you have, the more you can mitigate those factors to live a longer and healthier life. Your health knowledge is your own protective armor.”
The health fair is free and open to the public; no reservations are required.
