Program

Visit three different eco‑zones: High Altitude Cloud Forests (Monteverde), volcanic pre‑montane forests(Arenal) and lowland rain forests (La Selva) of Costa Rica. Participate in research comparing and contrasting ecological processes within those ecosystems (and yes, even those not enrolled in the ecology class will be asked to help out with some of the research projects a couple of hours a day!). Observe a variety of wildlife in each ecosystem, including howler monkeys, toucans, sloths, poison dart frogs and maybe even the elusive Resplendent Quetzal. Hike through lush primary tropical rainforest in the Selva Verde 500-acre reserve. Get up close and personal with a live volcano (Arenal) and bathe in the nearby hot springs. Fly through the trees on a zip lining excursion and embark on a thrilling whitewater rafting adventure. Take a tour of the Jungle and see some of the largest trees in Costa Rica. Experience the food and culture of Costa Rica and learn about some of the social, economic and ecological challenges facing this beautiful and peaceful nation.
