Lakewood, N.J., October 12, 2017—On Thursday, November 16, join Georgian Court University for a day trip to historic Philadelphia for a rare and exciting opportunity to experience the Terracotta Warriors of the First Emperor at the Franklin Institute and as well as a chance to see the city’s iconic sights.
The Terracotta Warriors of the First Emperor are one of the most significant archeological discoveries in history. In 1974, a farmer in China uncovered the monumental discovery of thousands of life-sized statues, constructed over 2,000 years ago, guarding the tomb of China’s First Emperor. Since the discovery, archaeologists have excavated the warriors and researched their histories and secrets. This exhibit features 10 terracotta figures and more than 170 artifacts. This exclusive event is happening only in Philadelphia and Seattle!
During the trip, you’ll also have the chance to see the iconic sights of the historic, cultural, and waterfront areas of Philadelphia, as well as the vibrant Chinatown neighborhood. You’ll learn about the history of Chinatown, along with some unique traditions and beautiful murals. You’ll learn about terracotta amphora, which is still used in winemaking today, and enjoy a fine meal baked in terracotta clay, crafted with the flavors used at the time of the Terracotta Warriors.
The cost of the trip is $150 per person, which includes round-trip bus transportation, bus snacks, admissions, guided tour, lunch, driver’s gratuity, and tour leader. The bus will leave from the Seventh Street Gate on GCU’s historic Lakewood campus at 8:30 a.m. sharp and return at approximately 6:30 p.m. Tickets must be purchased in advance at http://georgian.edu/event/historic-philadelphia-terracotta-warriors-exhibit-day-trip/.
