How Merit Scholarships Work

  • Merit scholarships are applied to tuition only.
  • Undergraduate students attending the Lakewood campus are automatically considered for scholarships upon acceptance to the university — there’s no separate scholarship application.
  • All awards are based on continuous full-time enrollment.
  • Merit aid is renewable for 4 academic years or 8 semesters.
  • The university reserves the right to replace merit scholarships with other institutional aid if circumstances require it.
  • Scholarship awards do change from year to year and are not increased after an offer of admission — the amount you’re offered is the amount you’ll receive, even if award levels change for future incoming classes.

If you can't maintain the pace needed to finish your degree within four years or eight semesters, you may appeal for an additional year, or up to two additional semesters, of merit aid. Appeals are considered case-by-case for students who could not maintain the required pace through no fault tied to academic performance itself.

Additional need-based aid may be available beyond your merit scholarship — contact the Office of Financial Aid to explore your options.
