Understanding Your Options

GCU offers two distinct types of graduate-level credentials beyond degree programs:

GCU Graduate Certificates

are institutional credentials awarded directly by Georgian Court University upon completion of a defined program of study. They are not New Jersey state certifications — but they document specialized expertise recognized by employers, hiring committees, and professional communities. Many GCU certificates stack toward full master's degrees, so your credits are never wasted.

New Jersey State Certifications & Endorsements

are professional credentials issued by the New Jersey Department of Education (NJ DOE) upon your application after completing a GCU-approved preparation program. These credentials formally authorize you to hold specific roles in New Jersey schools — such as ESL teacher, school supervisor, or student assistance coordinator. GCU's programs prepare you for these credentials; the NJ DOE issues them.

Both types appear on this page. Each program listing clearly identifies which type of credential it leads to.

Start with a Certificate, Build to a Degree

Many of GCU’s certificate and endorsement programs are designed to stack toward full master’s degrees. Credits you earn in a certificate program apply directly toward the corresponding M.Ed. or M.A. — meaning you never have to repeat work. Notable stackable pathways include:

  • ASD Certificate (15 cr) → ASD M.Ed. (36 cr total) → School Supervisor eligibility
  • Integrative Health Certificate (18 cr) → Integrative Health M.A. (36 cr total)
  • Business Administration Certificate (18 cr) → MBA (36 cr total)
  • ESL Endorsement (15 cr) → ESL/Supervisor M.Ed. (33 cr total)
  • TOSD Endorsement (21 cr) → TOSD M.Ed. (36 cr total)
  • Early Childhood Endorsement (24 cr) → Early Childhood M.Ed. (33 cr total)
  • SAC Program (21 cr — 18 credits embedded in School Counseling M.Ed.) → School Counseling M.Ed. graduates need only 1 additional course for SAC endorsement
