Home Academics Graduate Programs Graduate Certificates & Endorsements School Supervisor, Post-Master’s Endorsement
Already have your master's degree in education? The School Supervisor endorsement is the next step toward a formal leadership credential in New Jersey — authorizing you to supervise instruction, lead curriculum initiatives, and serve as Athletic Director in schools where you don't hold a principal's endorsement.

The School Supervisor endorsement is the first formal administrative credential most NJ educators pursue — and districts rely on supervisors for the curriculum, instruction, and professional development work that actually moves student outcomes. It's the credential that officially authorizes you to take on those responsibilities, evaluate teachers, and work in a formal leadership capacity alongside building administrators.
Four courses. Twelve credits. The endorsement is deliberately compact, recognizing that working educators don't have time for extended preparation when their next career step is right in front of them. And if you're a graduate of GCU's M.Ed. programs in ASD, TOSD, or ESL, you've likely already completed most of these courses — meaning you may need as little as one additional course to complete the full endorsement.
The School Supervisor endorsement is the credential that unlocks lateral mobility in NJ school administration. Supervisors can move into curriculum coordination, department leadership, district-level instructional roles, and eventually the superintendent pathway. It is also required for appointment as Athletic Director in schools where the principal does not hold that endorsement — expanding your options beyond instruction into school operations.
If your long-term goal is the superintendency, the School Supervisor endorsement is a natural building block. The four courses in this endorsement (EDC5010, EDC5013, EDC5102, EDC6401) appear directly in the coursework pathways for higher-level administrative credentials — meaning this investment compounds over time.
School supervisors occupy a critical middle layer in New Jersey’s educational leadership structure — they work directly with teachers on curriculum, instruction, and professional development, and serve as the bridge between classroom practice and administrative vision. The GCU post-master’s endorsement program prepares you for that role with 12 targeted credits aligned with the New Jersey Professional Standards for Educational Leaders.
The program’s focus is 21st-century curricular leadership for inclusive schools and districts — covering curriculum leadership, curriculum management for diverse learners, supervision of instruction, and a capstone leadership seminar. Individuals with a School Supervisor endorsement may also be appointed as assistant superintendents with curriculum and instruction responsibilities.
Who This Program Is For: Certified New Jersey educators who hold a master’s degree in education from an accredited institution, possess a valid NJ instructional certificate, and have at least three years of successful teaching or educational services experience.
