Home Academics Undergraduate Programs Addictions Counseling, Minor
Substance use disorders affect millions of families — and New Jersey needs more qualified professionals to address them. GCU's Addictions Counseling minor builds the educational foundation for the NJ Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) license, covering addiction theory, evidence-based treatment, basic counseling skills, and professional ethics. Ideal for Psychology, Social Work, Nursing, Health Sciences, and Criminal Justice students.

Addiction counseling is one of New Jersey’s most critically needed professional skills — and the Addictions Counseling minor provides the academic coursework required to apply for the NJ Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) license. Students completing this minor will have satisfied the educational component of CADC eligibility; the license itself requires additional supervised practice hours through the NJ Division of Consumer Affairs.
The minor pairs naturally with majors in Psychology (where several courses double-count), Social Work, Nursing, Criminal Justice, and Health Sciences — and is also valuable for Exercise Science, Interdisciplinary Studies, and Health Profession Studies students interested in behavioral health careers.
Students must complete at least 18 credits, including 15 credits of required courses, plus 3 credits of electives.
