Ethics, Minor

Ethics isn't about abstract ideas — it's the framework that guides every professional decision you'll make in your career. GCU's Ethics minor is grounded in the university's Mercy core values and challenges students to understand ethical frameworks, apply them in professional and civic contexts, and develop the moral courage to translate values into action. Open to all majors; especially valuable for Nursing, Business, Criminal Justice, and Health Sciences students.

Program overview

The Ethics minor educates students about the Mercy core values — respect, integrity, justice, compassion, and service — and Christian teachings about justice. Students are encouraged to take actions that accord with those values in their lives and careers, and to promote policies that accord with them in the wider society. The minor draws from ethics courses offered across multiple departments, allowing students to approach ethical questions from multiple disciplinary perspectives.

Program Information

The minor in ethics educates students about the Mercy core values. It encourages them to take actions that accord with those values in their lives and careers, and to promote policies that accord with them in the wider society.

Minor Sequence

Students minoring in ethics are required to take 15 semester hours of credit in ethics courses. Students may "double-count" the course they take to fulfill the General Education ethics requirement (including BU319) toward completion of the minor. Students may also "double-count" courses used for the ethics minor with those used to fulfill the requirements of another academic program.
