Program overview

Marketing is one of the most dynamic, creative, and data-rich fields in business — and it’s changing faster than almost any other discipline. GCU’s B.S. in Marketing is designed to keep you ahead of that change.

Built on the 45-credit Business Core, the Marketing major combines essential business fluency — accounting, economics, finance, statistics — with a focused set of marketing courses that build real, applicable expertise. You’ll study how consumers make decisions, how brands are built and managed, how research informs strategy, and how digital channels are used to reach, engage, and convert audiences at scale.

What’s different about GCU’s Marketing program? It’s genuinely current. Alongside foundational coursework in consumer behavior, advertising & PR, and marketing research, you’ll find courses like Social Media Marketing, Going Viral & Growth Hacking, Lifecycle & Email Marketing, and Digital Marketing Analytics & Experimentation. These aren’t afterthoughts — they’re core to what today’s marketing employers expect you to know.

For students who want to go even deeper in digital, the optional Digital Marketing Concentration provides 12 dedicated credits in the digital ecosystem — career exploration, growth strategies, email campaigns, and analytics experimentation. It’s a powerful specialization that can be completed within the 120-credit degree.

Small classes mean you’ll work closely with faculty and peers on campaigns, research projects, and presentations — building the portfolio and professional confidence you’ll need on day one of your career.

Marketing, B.S. FAQ

Q: What’s the difference between the Marketing major and the Digital Marketing Concentration? A: The B.S. in Marketing is the full degree — it covers all aspects of marketing from consumer behavior and brand strategy to advertising, sales, and research. The Digital Marketing Concentration is an optional 12-credit specialization within the Marketing major, designed for students who want to focus specifically on digital channels — growth hacking, email marketing, and analytics. You get the full degree either way; the concentration just adds a deeper digital focus.

Q: Are some courses in this program offered online? A: Yes — several of the marketing electives and the Digital Marketing Concentration courses are offered online through a consortium of accredited colleges and universities, with technology and administrative support provided by Rize Education. These courses are approved and overseen by Georgian Court University, and students register through GCU and receive GCU credit. All other program requirements are available on campus, hybrid, or through GCU’s own online offerings.

Q: What kinds of internships do Marketing students typically complete? A: Marketing students intern at a wide range of organizations — including digital marketing agencies, corporate marketing departments, media companies, nonprofits, and consumer brands. Marketing students are expected to seek internship opportunities in the marketing field. Career Services and faculty advisors help students identify and secure placements that align with their career goals.

Q: Can I study Marketing and also pursue sport marketing specifically? A: Absolutely. Sport Marketing (SM241) is one of the Marketing elective options, and you can further specialize by adding the Sport Management minor. This combination is ideal if you’re interested in careers at sports teams, athletic apparel brands, sports media companies, or marketing agencies that serve sports clients. See the Sport Management, B.S. page for more details on that program.

Q: Is there a GPA requirement to stay in the Marketing program? A: Yes — a minimum 2.3 GPA overall and in the major is required to continue in the program beyond your sophomore year. A 2.5 GPA in all major courses is required for graduation.

Q: Can I earn an MBA after my Marketing degree, and is there a fast track? A: Yes. Marketing majors with a 3.5 GPA can apply for Advanced Admission to GCU’s MBA program as early as junior year. You can start taking MBA courses while finishing your undergraduate degree — no GMAT required. The MBA now includes a new Marketing Concentration (launching Fall 2026), making this pathway especially compelling for Marketing B.S. students.

Q: What software and tools will I use in this program? A: Marketing students work with a range of industry-standard digital tools across coursework — including social media platforms and analytics dashboards, email marketing platforms, survey and research tools, and digital advertising tools.

Q: Is Marketing a creative program or more analytical? A: Both — and that’s the point. Today’s most effective marketers blend creative thinking with analytical rigor. GCU’s Marketing curriculum reflects this: courses like Graphic Design principles, Going Viral & Growth Hacking, and Social Media Marketing build creative skills, while Marketing Research, Business Statistics & Probability, and Digital Marketing Analytics & Experimentation build quantitative and analytical capability. You’ll graduate strong in both.

Q: When should I apply? A: GCU uses rolling admissions, so you can apply any time. Priority deadlines are November 1, January 1, and March 1. Applying early maximizes your access to merit scholarships, housing, and financial aid.
