This program isn't just about social media or advertising — it's about building integrated, coherent communication strategies across every touchpoint. In 30 credits, you'll develop expertise in digital marketing, brand identity, media analytics, digital storytelling, user-centered design, public relations, crisis communication, creativity and innovation, and campaign planning and management. That's the complete toolkit of a modern marketing leader.
The program culminates in MC699 Campaign Planning & Management — a capstone course where you create and implement an actual marketing and digital communication campaign for a real local, national, or international business. You graduate with a live campaign portfolio piece, not just a theoretical project. That's the kind of work sample that gets you hired.
Many marketing programs go deep in one direction — either creative or analytical. GCU's IMC M.S. is intentionally built to develop both. Media Analytics (MC620) teaches you to extract insights from social data and measure campaign ROI. Brand Identity (MC621) and Digital Storytelling (MC630) build visual communication and narrative skills. User-Centered Design (MC698) connects strategy to human experience. You leave fluent in the language of both the creative team and the C-suite.
GCU undergrads — in any major — can apply for the 4+1 advanced admission program in their junior year. If accepted, you complete your bachelor's and your M.S. in IMC in just five years total, taking graduate courses in your senior year. It's one of the most efficient pathways to a master's degree available anywhere in New Jersey.
IMC courses at GCU are taught by faculty with real-world experience in communication, digital marketing, journalism, public relations, and design — people who bring the actual challenges of professional practice into the classroom. Small class sizes mean you work closely with faculty who know your work and your goals.
Every brand — whether it’s a global corporation, a local non-profit, or a personal brand — needs professionals who can think strategically across platforms, tell compelling stories, and prove their results with data. GCU’s M.S. in Integrated Marketing Communication prepares you to be that professional.
The 30-credit program begins where it should: with MC610 Integrated Marketing Communication (required in the first semester), which builds the conceptual foundation — the IMC planning model, advertising, sales promotion, public relations, direct marketing, social media, segmentation, and positioning — that every subsequent course builds on. From there, courses develop your skills systematically across four areas: digital strategy (Digital Marketing, Media Analytics, Global Marketing), brand and creative (Brand Identity, Digital Storytelling, Creativity & Innovation), professional communication (Media Law & Ethics, Brand Communication, Public Relations Writing, Crisis Communication), and capstone application (User-Centered Design, Campaign Planning & Management).
The result is a degree that prepares you for the full range of marketing and communication leadership roles — from agency and in-house marketing to public relations, digital strategy, brand management, and beyond. New Jersey’s dense concentration of corporations, agencies, healthcare organizations, and media companies makes it one of the best markets in the country to launch or advance a marketing career.
The 4+1 pathway allows current GCU undergraduates to apply for admission in their junior year and begin graduate coursework during their senior year, completing both degrees in five total years. Students who don’t complete the 4+1 program graduate with their bachelor’s degree — no penalty, no wasted credits.
GCU’s M.S. in Integrated Marketing Communication is a great fit if you:

Q: What careers does this degree specifically prepare me for? A: The M.S. in IMC is designed for roles like digital marketing manager, brand strategist, social media director, content strategy manager, marketing communications specialist, public relations manager, and campaign manager. The curriculum moves systematically from integrated strategy to execution to measurement — so graduates are prepared for the full marketing and communications professional toolkit.
Q: How important is prior marketing experience for admission?
A: No specific prior work experience is required. The program accepts any undergraduate major. That said, students who come in with some marketing, communications, or content creation experience tend to connect coursework to professional context more readily. If you’re a career changer, expect the first semester to involve some catching up on foundational concepts.
Q: What does the capstone project involve? A: MC699 Campaign Planning & Management requires you to create and implement a real integrated marketing and digital communication campaign for an actual local, national, or international organization. You’ll apply everything from the program — digital strategy, brand identity, analytics, storytelling, media ethics — to a real client or real project. You graduate with a portfolio piece, not just a grade.
Q: Is this program available online? A: Yes, the Integrated Marketing Communication, M.S. is offered 100% online.
Q: How does the 4+1 pathway work for undergrads in non-communication majors? A: Any GCU undergraduate — regardless of major — can apply for early M.S. admission after completing 75 credits with a 3.0+ GPA. If accepted, you take up to 12 graduate credits during your senior year, counting toward both degrees. Even if you don’t finish the full M.S., you graduate with your bachelor’s degree. There’s no downside to applying.
Q: How is this different from the MBA concentration in Marketing? A: The MBA Marketing concentration is three courses (9 credits of electives) within a broader general management degree — giving you marketing expertise alongside accounting, finance, economics, and strategy. The M.S. in IMC is a full 30-credit master’s degree entirely focused on marketing and communications — much deeper preparation for a career specifically in that field. If marketing is your entire career direction, the M.S. in IMC is the stronger specialized credential.
