Minor in Africana Studies
A minor in Africana Studies allows students to gain knowledge and perspectives on cultures and peoples of Africa and the African diaspora, including African Americans, through study of multiple subject areas and methodological approaches. The African diaspora refers to people of African origin living outside the continent of Africa. Students craft an area of study, drawing on at least three disciplines in the social sciences and the humanities, to examine developments related to African and African diaspora communities, while gaining communication, analytic, and research skills.

The Multiethnic Studies minor draws on a wide array of courses at Georgian Court University that explore history, culture, and social issues relevant to ethnicity and race within and outside the United States. The minor allows students to gain expertise through interdisciplinary study of diverse social groups, encouraging a comparative approach to understanding ethnicity, race, culture, migration of social groups, and intercultural dynamics. Courses focus on ethnic, indigenous, and immigrant groups predominantly in the United States; coverage of other societies enhances the program’s global perspective.
