Program
This study abroad program integrates sustainable business, agriculture, and ecotourism all while exploring Costa Rica. Students will have the opportunity to visit these businesses by taking trips to geothermal plants, farms, and other sustainable businesses so they can get a scope of how businesses run in Costa Rica.
Itinerary
- Visit a geothermal plant
- Visit a cacao/coffee farm
- Hike in the rainforest
- Visit an animal sanctuary
- Visit a banana farm
- Understand sustainable businesses
- Immerse in the culture with a host family
Academics
This study abroad program integrates sustainable business and e-tourism, all while exploring the country of Costa Rica. Students will have the opportunity to visit sustainable businesses, so they can get a scope of how businesses run in Costa Rica. In addition, students can expect to do some recreational activities, like enjoying hot springs after the geothermal plant tour and going to the beach after learning more about e-tourism.

Faculty Leaders
Dr. Michael Pawlish is an Associate Professor at the School of Business and Digital Media. A New Jersey native, he has lived in both California and Sweden. He teaches strategy, leadership, and sustainable business practices. His research interests include organizational culture and corporate sustainability. Previously, he worked as an adventure travel guide, leading groups across the USA, up to Alaska, and throughout Europe. This will be his second time leading a study abroad trip and his third visit to Costa Rica. He has previously studied Spanish in Costa Rica.
Danielle Bilder is the Assistant Director of Student Success at Georgian Court University. Additionally, she is the Co-Director of the UNITY Council to promote belonging amongst students, staff, and faculty of the Georgian Court community. Previously, she taught English to students in Thailand, Japan, and Poland. She loves to travel and experience new cultures whenever she can, having been to 50 countries and territories worldwide. In 2021, she volunteered at an animal shelter in Costa Rica and greatly enjoys immersing in the Costa Rican culture.
