Program
This study abroad program offers a comprehensive exploration of education, sports, and cultures in South Korea. Students will learn about South Korean educational systems. They will visit local elementary/middle schools to gain valuable insights through classroom observations. Also, they will have a chance to collaborate with Korean college students. The participants will forge meaningful connections and gain firsthand insight into contemporary Korean culture and education through collaborative projects, language exchanges, and social activities. Additionally, students will have the unique opportunity to engage in various sports activities, including visiting various Korean sporting venues and watching games. Also, students will be able to visit historical landmarks and participate in cultural festivals during the program.
Itinerary
- Elementary/Middle schools visits for class observations
- University visits to meet local students and exchange cultures and education
- Visit K-pop stations, sports stadiums, and arenas
- Meet and engage with professionals from K-culture and Sports
- Visit historical landmarks (Palace, Folk village, Temples etc)
- Language exchange opportunity (teach English and learn Korean) for future communication and projects
Academics
This course provides an examination of a selected topic in education. The specific topic to be considered is announced each semester that the course is offered. Topics focus on current issues in education and/or a unique area of interest to the student in pursuit of a particular curriculum.
Faculty Leaders
Dr. Jeongwon Choi
Dr. Hyuksoon Song, an associate professor of education, was born and raised in South Korea before coming to the U.S. for his graduate studies in 2003. He is very excited to share Korean culture with the GCU community through this trip.
