International Day of Nonviolence
October 4, 2021 @ 1:00 pm

Remembering Gandhi on the International Day of Nonviolence
Let’s wear white on Monday, October 4, 2021 to celebrate Mahatma Gandhi’s Birthday. The GCU campus community is invited to a commemoration prayer at 1:00 p.m. by the university’s Peace Pole. Dr. Sarita Nemani, GCU professor of mathematics, will be among faculty leaders and others in attendance.
The international observation, established by the United Nations in 2007, honors Gandhi, leader of the Indian independence movement and pioneer of the philosophy and strategy of nonviolence. The UN highlights Gandhi as “the inspiration for non-violent movements for civil rights and social change across the world. Throughout his life, Gandhi remained committed to his belief in non-violence even under oppressive conditions and in the face of seemingly insurmountable challenges.”
