Clue: New Jersey will be represented for the first time at the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Student Quiz Bowl by this university.
Answer: What is Georgian Court University?
Correct! Patrick Morris ’22, Krzysztof Paczesny ’22, and Vincent Giunta ’22 will test their knowledge of sports medicine and exercise science against teams from across the United States on June 1 during the ACSM’s annual meeting in San Diego.
Georgian Court’s team won the right to advance to the national competition by winning the ACSM Greater New York Region’s competition in April. “Krzysztof, Patrick, and Vincent have a very deep knowledge of exercise science concepts, and I am confident they’ll perform well against students from some of the country’s leading collegiate programs,” said Vincent Chen, Ph.D., assistant professor of exercise science.
Georgian Court’s team will be boning up on its knowledge of anatomy, cardiac and muscular physiology, nutrition, ACSM guidelines, and more. Meet the team, all stellar students/alumni:
- Krzysztof, a biology and exercise science double minor who has accepted a job with a bio company—which will pay his full doctoral program tuition;
- Patrick, also a biology major, who will begin studies at the Cooper Medical School of Rowan University; and
- Vincent, the top exercise science major, who will graduate in the fall.
Patrick and Krzysztof were also researchers in the exercise science lab while at Georgian Court.
Bringing the trophy back to Lakewood is the goal, but there’s another prize. “Competing on the national stage at the ACSM annual meeting will most certainly raise the visibility of GCU’s exercise science program,” said Dr. Chen.
