Georgian Court is preparing for Critical Concerns Week 2020—Earth: Land and Sea, and a special prayer card is available now for download. This special week of activities and opportunities for reflection will take place March 23-26 at GCU’s historic Lakewood campus. Watch the GCU website for more details soon.
This year’s theme takes into consideration Pope Francis’ 2016 address for the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation. That’s when he proposed an addition to the two traditional sets of seven corporal and spiritual works of mercy.
As a spiritual work of mercy, care for creation “calls for a grateful contemplation of God’s world which allows us to discover in each thing a teaching which God wishes to hand on to us.” As a corporal work of mercy, caring for creation “requires simple daily gestures which break with the logic of violence, exploitation and selfishness, and makes itself felt in every action that seeks to build a better world.”
Join the GCU community in preparation by downloading this special prayer for Earth: Land and Sea. It is meant to remind us all that care for creation is more than a nice sentiment. It is a call to live with mercy in every context of our lives.
