BACHELOR OF SOCIAL WORK (B.S.W.)

When you earn your Bachelor of Social Work (B.S.W.) from Georgian Court University, you’ll follow a curriculum focused on ethics, values, critical thinking, human behavior, and social and economic justice. As a social worker, you’ll be able to mold your passions for social justice and change into a lifelong career of helping others.
A B.S.W. from Georgian Court is a professional degree, which means that when you graduate, you will automatically be considered a General Practitioner and may apply to become a Certified Social Worker (C.S.W.). We also offer an accelerated associate’s to B.S.W. path that allows students with two-year degrees to fast-track their path to earning their bachelor’s degree.

WHAT CAN YOU DO WITH A BACHELOR OF SOCIAL WORK (B.S.W.)?
Social professionals can be in found in several industries, including health care, education, public welfare, criminal justice, and community development. In fact, the number of jobs in social work in the United States is projected to grow 13% by 2029. With a bachelor’s degree in social work, you’ll be prepared to pursue careers such as therapist, researcher, counselor, case manager, and more. Additionally, if you earn your Master of Social Work and achieve licensure, you’ll also be able to work in more clinical settings and diagnose and treat mental, behavioral, and emotional disorders.

The Bachelor of Social Work program at Georgian Court is also accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, which means that if you earn your B.S.W., you’ll be able to acquire a Master of Social Work degree with half your credits already earned.

GCU's Social Work Programs
SOCIAL WORK MAJOR
The social work major provides a liberal arts foundation and then builds upon it with an immersive social work curriculum and field experience. This program requires 120 credits to complete.
SOCIAL WORK MINOR
Develop an understanding of the change agents needed to turn a concern for social justice into action, both locally and globally, with a minor in social work.
GERONOTOLOGY MINOR
The gerontology minor is designed to enhance the knowledge base for students seeking to pursue a career in the field of aging or working with an older population.

Prepare for a successful career as a social worker with Georgian Court University at Brookdale’s flexible learning options. GCU at Brookdale offers multiple pathways to pursue your bachelor’s degree. You can complete your B.S.W. part-time or full time with evening classes at Brookdale and online.

If you anticipate continuing your education after earning your undergraduate degree, we urge you to learn more about our rigorous 4+1 program options. With a 4+1 program, you’ll be able to complete your undergraduate degree at Georgian Court and then apply with advanced standing to a number of our master’s programs.
Applying with advanced standing means you’ll have priority consideration ahead of other applicants, and you may also be able to waive certain admission requirements. Additionally, a number of the 4+1 programs allow accepted undergraduate students to begin taking master’s-level courses while still working toward their undergraduate degrees—preparing them to graduate with two degrees in less than five years.
