Today, nearly 80 GCU students, faculty, and staff participated in the National School Walkout by joining together in a prayer service and candlelight vigil at the Peace Pole. The community prayed in silence for 17 minutes as campus chapel bells chimed in the background. The ceremony concluded with a reading of the names of the 17 people killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and a prayer, “Let the Shooting End,” from the Mid-Atlantic Sisters of Mercy. The nationwide protest was held to honor the lives of the Florida victims and advocate for stricter gun laws.
