Department of Biology, Biochemistry, & Chemistry

Science that opens doors.

If you’ve ever wondered how the human body works, what’s inside a cell, or how chemistry shapes the world around you, you’re in the right place. The Department of Biology, Biochemistry, & Chemistry, Biochemistry, & Chemistry gives you a rigorous science foundation and the flexibility to chase exactly the career you want — whether that’s medical school, a lab coat, a classroom, or a hospital records office.

You can choose a B.A. or B.S. in Biology (with built-in tracks in Medical Imaging and Medical Laboratory Science), a B.S. in Biochemistry or Chemistry, a B.S. in Clinical Laboratory Sciences, or a B.S. in Health Information Management. However you start, you’ll get small classes, real lab time, and faculty who know your name and your goals.

What makes this department different is its partnerships. We’ve built direct pipelines into some of the best professional programs in the region — Rutgers University’s School of Health Professions, Seton Hall University, Saint Joseph’s University, the University of Saint Joseph, St. George’s University, and Western Atlantic University School of Medicine. That means your path from a GCU classroom to medical school, pharmacy school, or a Registered Health Information Administrator credential is mapped out before you even declare your major.

This Is What Sets You Apart.

Direct Pipelines to Medical & Health Professional Schools

Through formal partnerships with Rutgers University, Saint Joseph's University, the University of Saint Joseph, St. George's University, and Western Atlantic University School of Medicine, qualified students can move from a GCU bachelor's degree directly into professional programs in medicine, pharmacy, physical therapy, and veterinary medicine — some in as few as seven years total.

Accelerate Into Your Master's — One Semester Sooner

Strong B.S. in Chemistry students can complete their GCU degree in seven semesters and begin Seton Hall University's M.S. in Chemistry program in their eighth semester — saving a full semester of tuition while getting a head start on graduate work.

Real Lab Time, Every Semester

From day one, you're in the lab — not just the lecture hall. Combined lecture-and-lab courses run across Biology, Chemistry, and Biochemistry, and motivated students can pursue independent research or an honors research track culminating in a public presentation of their work.
