- New accelerated pathway offers Bachelor’s and MD in six years
- Program bridges undergraduate and medical school training, saving time and costs on students’ medical journeys
Georgian Court University (GCU) and Western Atlantic University School of Medicine (WAUSM) have signed a groundbreaking articulation agreement to establish an Accelerated Combined Bachelor/MD Program, offering highly qualified students the opportunity to earn a bachelor’s degree and a Doctor of Medicine (MD) in as few as six years. The signing ceremony took place at Georgian Court’s campus, bringing together officials from both institutions to celebrate the landmark partnership.
Set to launch in Fall 2026, the program provides a fast-tracked pathway for students pursuing careers in medicine. Participants will spend seven academic terms (2.25 years) at Georgian Court, completing at least 90 credits, including all WAUSM prerequisite coursework. Those who meet the program’s academic and proficiency standards will then transition to WAUSM, where they will be considered dual-enrolled at both institutions for their first two terms of medical school. Upon successful completion, students will be awarded their bachelor’s degree from Georgian Court and continue toward their MD at WAUSM.
“This agreement with WAUSM offers a seamless transition from undergraduate studies to medical school, giving students a unique opportunity to accelerate their journey to becoming physicians while maintaining the high-quality education and support they need to thrive,” said Dr. Janice Warner, Provost at Georgian Court University.
“WAUSM is proud to partner with Georgian Court University in developing a program that identifies and supports future physicians from an early stage,” said Dr. Paula Wales, Provost at WAUSM. “By integrating medical education into the undergraduate experience, we can help students achieve their goals more efficiently and cost-effectively.”
WAUSM, located in Freeport, Bahamas, offers a U.S.-modeled medical curriculum, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared for U.S. residencies and licensure. The program also includes built-in MCAT preparation, academic advising, and strong student support services to foster success.
“Students in this program will benefit from personalized attention and support from skilled, experienced faculty from both institutions,” said Dr. Carolyn Bergman, Chair of the Department of Biology and Associate Professor at Georgian Court University, as well as the university’s director for its academic partnership with WAUSM. “By creating a clear, structured path to medical school, we are opening doors for highly motivated students to achieve their goals faster and with a clear sense of direction.”
The program is ideal for students who have demonstrated strong academic performance in high school, particularly in science and math, and are committed to becoming physicians. Interested students can apply during their initial application to Georgian Court, with select continuing GCU students also considered on a case-by-case basis.
